Neapolitan-Style Smoothie

I am a huge ice-cream lover. It is not only the unique flavors that make the dessert irresistible but the endless toppings too! With the creation of banana ice cream, also known as nice-cream, I am able to eat the frozen treat daily and feel guilt-free!

Earlier this week I saw a delicious looking photo of a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich on my  Instagram popular page. After seeing it, I could not stop craving the tri-flavored dessert! That is when I got to the drawing board and came up with this healthified vegan recipe. The base of all of the flavors is made with frozen banana, to provide a rich, creamy, and naturally sweetened flavor. Not only does the smoothie look gorgeous, but it is also naturally-sweetenedhealthy, gluten-free, and guilt-free! It is the perfect drink for breakfast, and will leave you full until lunch.

INGREDIENTS (Yields one smoothie bowl)

For the Chocolate Base

  • 1/2 Of a frozen banana
  • 1 Tsp. Cacao powder
  • 1 Tsp. Flax meal
  • 1/3 Cup of vanilla or chocolate almond milk

For the Strawberry Base

  • 1/4 Of a frozen banana
  • Heaping 1/3 cup of frozen strawberries
  • 1/3 Cup of vanilla almond milk

For the Vanilla Base

  • 1/3 Of a frozen banana
  • 3 Tsp. Gluten-free rolled oats
  • 1/2 Tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 2 Tsp. Vegan vanilla protein powder
  • 1/3 Cup of vanilla almond milk

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Blend all the ingredients for the chocolate base together in a food processor or blender until creamy.
  2. After the first base is made, pour the mixture into a cup or jar and place it in the freezer to harden slightly while you make the next base. This will ensure that the flavors stay separate and do not mix when they are poured on top of each other.  
  3. Repeat steps one and two for the remaining flavors. 
  4. Enjoy immediately with your favorite toppings!
