Incredibly Easy Crunchy Tempeh
There is nothing better than a salty and crunchy flavorful snack to munch on. What is even better, however, is when the snack also happens to be oil-free, incredibly easy to make, high in protein and made with only two ingredients! I have been making this crunchy tempeh every day since I first discovered it. It is wonderful by itself, but also can easily be thrown into a sandwich, salad, or almost any other dish as a flavorful and crunchy element! The best part about it is that it is entirely customizable depending on the spice profile you choose.
INGREDIENTS (Yields two servings)
- 1 Block of tempeh, I use Lightlife Orginal
- 1 Tsp. seasoning of choice*
Optional: Sprinkle of salt
*I use various spice mixtures depending on what I am craving. Some of my favorite seasonings for this recipe are garam masala, chipotle, cajun spice, za'atar and my current favorite, svanetian salt.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven or convection oven to 450°F
- Cut the entire block of tempeh into 1/2 inch thick cubes.
- Coat the pieces with the spice blend of your choice and toss to ensure the seasoning is coated evenly.
- Line a pan with parchment paper and place the seasoned tempeh on top.
- If adding salt, sprinkle on the salt! I only add additional salt if the spice blend I am using does not contain it.
- Cook the tempeh in the oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown, depending on how crispy you want them. Flip the pieces halfway to ensure even cooking on both sides.
- Enjoy immediately by itself or in a salad, sandwich, or any other desired dish!
